Solve each absolute value inequality. Graph the solution set. Write the solution in INTERVAL NOTATION. |3x+4|<8

OpenStudy (raden):

hint : if |f(x)| < a then -a < f(x) < a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is there 2 signs when u start out with one. how do u do tht

OpenStudy (raden):

nopes... just standard solution for inequality absolut |3x+4|<8 -8 < 3x+4 < 8 substracted 4 for all sides (left, middle, and right side) -8-4 < 3x+4-4 < 8-4 -12 < 3x < 4 divided by 3 all sides -12/3 < 3x/3 < 4/3 -4 < x < 4/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so on the 1st step u take the opposite of the # not on the same side as the variable and put tht on the other side of the line and put the sign there 2?

OpenStudy (raden):

yes.. but if ur question is |f(x)| > a, then take f(x) < -a or f(x) > a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so i got x<4/3 andx<-4
