I need to make a dowel, using nothing but a chisel and a hand drill?? IT sounds simple. but I cannot figure it out. I've drawn out something I thought would work, based off a youtube video. But I cannot seem to get it to work. Any help engineering guys?
You are basically going to "create" a mini lathe.
No, It can't use any sort of power other then human power, and the dowel needs to be 2 feet long. Basically a pencil sharpener that does not sharpen a point, but will cutout or sharpen the shaft.
Right, that is precisely what a lathe is. You use the hand drill to rotate the wood and the chisel to slowly take off the excess material until you have achieved the desired shape. You may decide that you have to fix the chisel in place while you crank the drill, which would require that you be able to adjust the distance between your project and the cutting edge.
alright ill look for some plans.
