OpenStudy (ujjwal):

The universe is expanding. Does it mean that the distance between sun and earth is increasing? If yes, will sunlight, at some point of time, take more than 8 min 20 sec to reach earth? And will it have any effect on earth's motion around sun?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes since the universe is expanding which would indicate that the distance between the sun and the earth is also increasing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think that the speed of light is constant so if the distance increases the time taken will increase proportionately. I think this will lead to a longer orbit period but you had better look up Keppler's laws of planetary motion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the speed of light is constant at 3x10^8 m/s. Kepler's first law is the law of orbitis. The law of orbits states that all planets move in elliptical orbits, with the sun at one focus.
