If the open switch is replaced by an ammeter, what will the current read? I know the answer, but am unsure of why this is true?

I know that because the ratio 1:3 = 3:9 there is no potential difference across the ammeter and it will read zero, but can someone show me why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:O it is actually called "ammeter" in english? Learned something new - yay :P What do you mean "why" ? You basically answered your question yourself.. there is no difference in electric potential. You could calculate all voltages and currents in the circuit, if that would reinforce your already correct intuition, but apart from that.. I don't know what to tell you..
