OpenStudy (aaronq):
rough has ribosomes embedded on it, which gives it it's "rough" surface appearance. Rough = site of protein synthesis smooth = lipid synthesis (eg phospholipid bilayer)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
RER is responsible for synthesizing simple proteins that were sent from the nucleus sending these to the golgi apparatus. SER is responsible for lipid synthesis.
