Mrs. Matthews started the school year with a total of 150 students. During the first semester, 18 students had their schedules changed to a different teacher, and 6 students moved to a different school district. If s students were transferred into one of Mrs. Matthew's classes during the first semester, which expression can be used to determine the total number of students Mrs. Matthews started with the second semester?

>which expression Is this multiple choice? Anyway, Let s = transferred students. So he starts with 150, but 18 change and 6 leave. So that's 18 + 6 = 24 left So assuming that he runs a 2 semester course, that's 150 - 24 = 126 remaining for the second semester. Now s is the number of students transferred in. So the total number of students is 126 + s, since we do not know how many new students joined. Hope that helped.
