The figure below shows the cross section of the scale model of a roof of a house. What is the length of the height RS of the roof rounded to the nearest tenth? A. 5.6 inches B. 7.5 inches C. 10 inches D. 12 inches<< My answer is this right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9/x = x/16 x^2 = 144 x = 12

Look at the figure below. What is the value of x rounded to the nearest tenth? A. 2 B. 2.4 C. 3 D. 8.5<<My answer is this right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6/x = x/12 x^2 = 72 x = 8.48 or 8.5

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

first one is correct x = 12 inch

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome! :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

second one , check again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did I do the set up wrong... 6/x = x/12?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

perfect now :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

noo wait a sec

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

RSQ ~ PRQ => SQ/RQ = RQ/PQ x/6 = 6/12 x = 36/12 x = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

from there I cross multiplied to get x^2 = 72 and the sqrt of 72 is 8.48 or 8.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh okay, I see what I did

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

great :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 3 right, just to clarify?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

correct ans=3

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

therez another easy way to do this

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

if u r familiar wid 'right triangle mean theorem' else, the way you're doing is good enough :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, thanks again so much! U really helped!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and I am, im still trying to get the hang of it though :)
