Release 10/18/2012

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Good afternoon folks, The Engineers Matt are happy to present a new, astounding, amazing, truly earth shattering OpenStudy releassseeeeeeee!!!!!!! Here's what we have for you. - NEW HOME PAGE! Check it out. It's slick. And more mature than the last one, so @across can now visit the site without feeling self conscious about the landing page. - CERTIFICATIONS! OpenStudy will now be selling certifications in particular OCW and MOOC subjects. Check out the home page for the list. Essentially, you pay for the certification, then when you've met the requirements OpenStudy issues you the certification. This particular feature is @Preetha's bread and butter, so please direct all questions to her. - ADS! Ads will start showing up above the Members Online list in all groups starting today. If you don't like the ads, we encourage you to subscribe to OpenStudy. Ads are, and always will be, hidden for subscribers. - BETTER EXPLANATION OF SUBSCRIBING! We've added a better explanation of what it means to subscribe on the user settings page: http://openstudy.com/settings#account - OCW LINKS ON STUDY GROUPS! Now study groups that are associated with a particular course or OCW group will link back to that group or OCW course above the members online list. Nothing really super special about this, but if you see an OCW group that you want more information on, look above the members online list for a link from now on. We're sorry for the server issues we've been experiencing the past few days. We thought we had them nipped in the bud, but that doesn't seem to be the case yet. We're going to continue looking into it as we're able, but with @shadowfiend offline for a bit you're stuck with us. ;) As usual, let us know if anything appears broken. (An no, ads appearing on the site doesn't count as broken.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The new homepage is cool, but I liked the old one better. :P Just sayin.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me 2;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AWESOME ☺☺♥

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

We're aware of a bug that causes the online list to appear under the header in some cases. We're going to be rolling a fix Real Soon Like™.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

._. Am I the only one who sees the ad for the university of Phoenix on the user list?

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Agent: Read the release notes. :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont see any ads...:/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. Aahah...ha..haha..ha.. I missed that in the notes. My bad.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

who do I contact for placement of an ad?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

is logging in smoother yet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we could either pay you to hide the ads or install Adblock for free?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh this is about to get interesting...

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

@amistre64: Probably not, we haven't been able to reproduce that bug. @Libniz: I encourage you to follow your conscience on that issue, imran.

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

And in answer to your other questions, ads are provided by Google. So, you'd talk to them, I suppose. :)

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

Great homepage. Its very sleek and easy on the eye

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

I really don't like the way the mathematics page looks now. It looks pretty homemade. Its way too confusing. I would suggest that the ad gets moved elsewhere maybe to the right hand pane. Its either the subtopics or the ads but it can't be both

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Yeah, we need to look into some tweaking in those regards. Google Ads is notoriously difficult to customize to our size. In my testing, if I fed it a custom size it just refused to display the ads at all. We'll see what we can do to improve it.

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

I liked the new homepage.

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

The new homepage is really slick.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sounds great! I personally liked the old homepage. However, this one does look more "mature" and school-like. (: Math subject - Although many people are having trouble receiving answers, the new format is neat. The subtopics help keep Math organized. Loading does seem to take longer, though. Congrats to the OS team ~ Neat Upgrade :D

mathslover (mathslover):

I am very happy to see the new homepage style of openstudy, it is great, thanks @mattfeury and @farmdawgnation for your hard work. But, though I am very happy (no ads for me) but still want to notice you about this that no ads are coming for mine. It means I am partial subscriber lol

Parth (parthkohli):

You've installed AdBlock it seems.

mathslover (mathslover):

No, @ParthKohli

OpenStudy (across):

The new OpenStudy looks superb!! You guys are doing a fantastic job!! :D
