3h to 40min,give the ratio as a fraction in simplest form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Convert both to minutes.. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

180 divided by 40 is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i need it in a fraction

Parth (parthkohli):

Yeah, you can simplify it. Hint: divide both numerator and denominator by 20!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or you can work in hours, which gives 3:2/3, and simplifies pretty easily to 9/2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but why divide by 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To get a simple fraction..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean where did u get 20 from

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is how he got 20.. :)\[\frac{180}{40}=\frac{20*9}{20*2}\]

Parth (parthkohli):

How did I get a 20? 20 is the GCD of 180 and 40, and dividing both numerator and denominator by the GCD is recommended to simplify the fraction.
