Chris and Sandy ran a half mile race. Sandy ran the race at a steady pace of 1/6 mile per minute and Chris ran at a steady pace of 1/5 mile per min. How many seconds after Chris finished did Sandy finish?

Thirty seconds. If we change the rates to their reciprocals, Chris is running a five minute mile; Sandy will take six minutes. To go half the distance, Chris will win the race by a half minute, or thirty seconds.
