what is an example of a direct variation equation? i did a problem and i just wanted to know if i did it right

OpenStudy (pounce0129):

help

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

y = 2x is an example of a direct variation equation

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

since it's in the form y = kx where k is some fixed constant number

OpenStudy (pounce0129):

so would x=-2y be a direct variation equation too?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes because you can solve for y to get x = -2y -2y = x y = (-1/2)*x y = -0.5x

OpenStudy (pounce0129):

thanks :)
