Parth (parthkohli):

Is penicillin really a fungus?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty much. "Penicillin" is actually the name for the specific group of antibiotics that was made from a fungus. And the name of the actual fungus is "Penicillium expansum."

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

Penicillin is an antibiotic. However it is produced by Penicillium chrysogenum which is both a mold and a fungus since mold is a type of fungi. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_penicillin_a_mold_or_a_fungus
