38 is your answer if you assume that BCA is a right angle. if not your missing some piece of info to complete the question i did sine rule to work out that the length AD = 27 and then applied cos35=x/27 to get length of CD and then added the lengths together

fin's answer is on the right track, but I would not round (AD is not exactly 27) and x= AD * cos(35) where AD is about 26.6 from \[ \frac{AD}{\sin 22} = \frac{16}{\sin 13} \]
