Solve the compound inequality 6b < 42 or 4b + 12 > 8. b < 6 or b > 5 b < 7 or b > −1 b < 7 or b > 1 b > 6 or b < 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, it seems you need to isolate b. Generally, inequalities with simple operations are treated the same as equations -- with one exception; when you multiply or divide by a negative number, you must switch the direction of the '<' to '>', and vice versa. 6b = 42 b = 7 Replace the "=" with "<". 4b + 12 = 8 4b = -4 b = -1 Replace the "=" with ">".
