|-5| +|5|

OpenStudy (raden):

hint : |x| = -x ; if x < 0 and |x| = x ; if x >= 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Still confused. So -x is less than 0?

OpenStudy (raden):

for |-5|, it means x=-5, therefore x < 0, right ? so, |-5| = -(-5) = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh okay so the answer is zero right?

OpenStudy (raden):

no.... for |5| = 5 so, |-5| + |5| = 5 + 5 = 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay I get it know so i was supposed to make -5 a positive 5

OpenStudy (raden):

yes..

hero (hero):

Absolute value means distance from zero, so the distance from zero of -5 is 5
