(A) nurses The reason I'd pick that over the others is that their society hadn't quite accepted women into other roles during that time, so they weren't seen in factories, were soldiers, or were thought of as "protectors" of homes from enemy soldiers. It wasn't because they weren't capable, but it was seen as the duty of men to fulfill those roles. Nursing, however, was seen as a role that women could pursue up to the front lines, aiding and comforting those wounded in battle.
