How would you go about solving this quadratic equation? I'm having trouble with the process. 2x^2+9x-5=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 ways you can solve it 1. factoring it out and solving for x 2. using the quadratic equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I know if I can factor it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

experience, mainly, if you look at enough of them, you can determine whether or not its factorable either that, or you can look at the determinant of the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Determinant?" - do you mean 'discriminant' @completeidiot ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i meant discriminant, i was close

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I mix those two up sometimes too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thanks! I will probably just factor it. I will be back, I have to leave. I'll check back later.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*hint: this polynomial is factorable.
