what is the basic method of finding co-ordinates with a given equation

Parth (parthkohli):

Find what \(\rm x \) is. Find what \(\rm y\) is. Write the values as \(\rm (x,y)\)

OpenStudy (amriju):

its nt possible to determine by one eqn...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the basic question is to find the co-ordinates where one line meets another

OpenStudy (amriju):

u hav the eqn of two lines...jst solve them simultaneously...u will get the values of x n y...

Parth (parthkohli):

Ah! Example:\[\rm y = 2x + 3\]and\[\rm y = 6x + 1\]You want to know where they meet each other. So, this will happen when the solutions of these equations are equal right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

Parth (parthkohli):

At that point which we require, \(\rm y = 2x + 3 = 6x + 1\). Agree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you make them equal each other aha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i cannot believe i forgot that

Parth (parthkohli):

Yup! Solve the equation \(\rm 2x + 3 = 6x + 1\) to get the \(\rm x\)-coordinates.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for all the help, everyone helped me alot :)

Parth (parthkohli):

And for the \(\rm y\)-coordinate, just find what \(\rm 2x + 3\) equals.

Parth (parthkohli):

You're welcome!
