It's not like you showed the steps incorrectly but wrote the answer you got on your calculator right?

"Formulation" is the form of an expression or equation. There are certain 'standard forms' that are preferred over other equivalent phrasings.

It might also mean that you didn't complete all the necessary steps to get it in simplest form.
