how can i identyfy the polynomial functions ? plss. help me and give me examples .. this is for my project .. tnx :D

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a poly has a specific form:\[P(x)=c_o+c_1x+c_2x^2+c_3x^3+...+c_ix^i+...\] where all the exponentr are positive integer values

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ow tnx .. :) how can i anser this for example ? f(x)=x(squared) - 1 ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

x^2 - 1 is a poly, yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[f(x)=x^{2} - 1 ?\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that is a poly, yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how can i identify if it is poly or not ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

is the exponent a positive integer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or how can i identify the polynomial function ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

are "all" the exponents positive integers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is positive

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if all the exponents are positive integers, then it is a poly. if you have fractions or negatives as exponents then it is not a poly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah .. ok thnks for your help .. :D take care

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hehehe .. :D
