first coordinate of the vertex is always \(-\frac{b}{2a}\) second coordinate is what you get when you replace \(x\) by that number in your case \[ax^2+bx+c=-x^2+12x-4\] so \(a=-1,b=12\) and \(-\frac{b}{2a}=-\frac{12}{-2}=6\)
