Could someone please explain to me the concepts behind this question? Attachment to come.

OpenStudy (poofypenguin):

I'm looking at the part about finding the function for u? What method would i use to solve it and what is this kinda process called?

OpenStudy (baldymcgee6):

I think by asking to write u as a function of v it means: u(v(x))

OpenStudy (poofypenguin):

but doesn't the hint imply its: u=w(v(x))?

OpenStudy (baldymcgee6):

ohhh... hmmm, i'm not sure then. I didnt see that hint.

OpenStudy (poofypenguin):

any ideas on how to find w?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in plain terms, u(x) takes the input v(x) and takes the square root of it, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure on the notation, but I think they are just asking you to say: u = sqrt(v) or something similar. That hint is confusing though.

OpenStudy (poofypenguin):

I'm not sure if that's right...are you sure that we don't need to consider the hint?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

U = W o V is a composition of functions. let W = sqrt(x) V = 3x^2 + 8x + 7
