light is an electromagnetic wave in which vibration takes place in all direction. the polarizing sunglass limit the vibrations in one direction ( or more precisely in one plane) only.
Properties of EM waves, They does not require any material medium for propagation. Their velocity remain constant in space ( vacuum). The velocity of EM waves decreases in a material medium with respect to the vacuum. such a medium is called as denser medium. Sunglasses use " dichroism " i.e the selective absorption to filter out the vibrations of EM waves. Selective absorption means while going through the medium the vibrations split in two parts one part is allowed to pass through while the other is being absorbed.
