A vacuole is for temporary storage of some material inside the cell. Plant cells commonly have one large vacuole. Animal cells commonly have many smaller vacuoles. Some special vacuoles are the food vacuoles (where food is digested and absorbed) and contractile vacuoles (which eject excess water) in protozoa

Storage. Plants have a food vacuole where they store starch. Animal cells, too, have vacuoles for transport of materials and stuffs :D
