which of the following shows the range of the table below x|y 3|12 5|15 7|21 9|27 a. {3,5,12,15} b. {3,5,7,9} c. {5,9,15,27 } d. { 12,15,21,27 }

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The range is the set of y values, so it's that right-side column... 12, 15, 21, 27 Also, if y values are duplicated in the table, you don't have to include them twice - but that's not an issue on this problem. Finally, "domain" is x values, in case you get a question about that.

ok thanks

which of the following does not represent a function? a. { (-6,4),(3,-5), (0,-2), (-1,-1)} b. x|y -2|15 6|9 -5|-10 -2|-6 3|4 c. y=3x2-2 (FYI-THE first TWO IS SQUARED) d. y=4x-3/2

so what is a function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A function is just a rule that relates the x values to the y values. However, part of the definition of a function says that it cannot repeat the x values with different y values. So any table where you have something like x = 3, y = 2 and also x = 3, y = 4 cannot be a function.
