You can describe the key event leading to the development of the cell theory as- when Robert Hooke discovered cells first in 1665,after observing the cork slice under a primitive microscope. Later in 1855 Virchow suggested that all cells arise from the per-existing cells.With the invention of electron microscope in 1940, it was possible to observe and understand the complex structure of the cell and its various organelles.
