Can someone please help? Which of the following contains both ionic and covalent bonding? Answer choices: NaClO NO FeBr HI

OpenStudy (jfraser):

ionic bonding and covalent bonding use different kinds of atoms to make their pairings. Do you know the difference between these 2 kinds of bonding?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (jfraser):

ionic bonding involves metal (+) and nonmetal (-) held together because of the opposite charges, like 2 magnets. Covalent bonding involves 2 or more nonmetals wth no charges, but sharing some of their electrons back and forth. Only one of those molecules uses BOTH a metal-nonmetal pair, AND a nonmetal-nonmetal pair.
