k+1=3k-1
Solving for k?
Is it a true or false question?
ima go with false
If so, it's false.
...?? Why is it false?
Oh no! It's true! I'm sorry, k + 1 = 2k, and 3k - 1 = 2.
2k = 2k
:)
\[ k+1=3k-1 \\ k+1+1=3k-1+1 \\ k+2=3k \\ \ \\ k+2-k = 3k-k \\ 2 = 2k \\ k = 1 \]
@Lily_980 Even if it were 2k = 2k, the equation would still be true. These are "false equations": 0 = 1 1 = 2 536= 942 -- These are "true equations": 0 = 0 1 = 1 x = x Both sides are equal. -- BTW, I don't think "true/false" is correct terminology.
"Oh no! It's true! I'm sorry, k + 1 = 2k, and 3k - 1 = 2." she has conceeded she was wrong. As have I by giving her a medal. I dont think we need a lesson on true and false equations. it was a mistake.
@muntoo There couldn't be another possible way to solve the problem other than a "True or False" problem.
@JamesWolf Right, I'm sorry I am trying to teach others stuff so they don't make the same mistake again. Thanks for your meaningful contribution to the discussion.
Your welcome.
If you guys don't believe me: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=+k%2B1%3D3k-1
are you just trolling now? we have said we were wrong
I do believe you, it's just that I am still in school as a freshman. So, I'm sorry if I do make mistakes.
@Lily_980 It's cool. :) @JamesWolf -_-
