Suppose you want to make cupcake from a box of mix. In this relationship, you have two values of boxes of mix and number of cupcakes. A. whats is the independent B. what is the dependent variable in this relationship?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ambiguous isn't it? however, since the number of cupcakes depends on the number of boxes of mix i guess you are supposed to say the "independent" variable is the number of boxes of mix, which the "dependent" variable is the number of cupcakes you can make

thank you c:

That is correct. Whenever you are attempting to do something, such as make brownies and the number of brownies you are going to make DEPENDS on the independent variable, which would be the mix. If you are trying to make cookies and you can make 12 cookies per pack of sugar, and you have 5 packs of sugar, the number of cookies you want to make DEPENDS on the amount of sugar you have, which would be the independent variable.
