(2x^3-6x-36)/(x-3)

Parth (parthkohli):

Try synthetic division or long division according to your tastes.

I'd go with synthetic division, personally.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do synthetic?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First recognize that 2x^3-6x-36 = 2x^3+0x^2-6x-36. You'll need that zero as a place-holder. Next set it up using only the coefficients of the polynomial as your 'dividend' and synthetically divide by k such that k=x when x-3 = 0. In other words, synthetically divide 2 0 -6 -36 by 3

Have you ever seen synthetic division before, or have you only used long division for polynomials?
