"Major metabolic pathways are similar across all groups of organisms." is somewhat true, ecoli perform fermentation and produce lactic acid as most organisms can.. enzymes are structurally the same.. is more true because all enzymes are chains of amino acids conformed into shapes i.e.  proteins
