how to figure this out ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 2/8 - 1 4/7

OpenStudy (epikrebel):

Make them into improper fractions then find the common denominator. \[5\frac{2}{8}=\frac{42}{8}\] \[1\frac{4}{7}=\frac{11}{7}\] \[\frac{42}{8}-\frac{11}{7}=\frac{294}{56}-\frac{88}{56}=\frac{206}{56}=\frac{103}{28}\]

thanks
