What is a difference between heterotrophs and autotrophs? Only heterotrophs depend on energy for survival. Only heterotrophs depend on other organisms for food. Only heterotrophs require larger quantities of energy. Only autotrophs move energy through a food chain. Only autotrophs break down food molecules to release energy.
