when we have a square root of something

This may be a noob question, but for some reason I forgot it.

EX: √36 = 6 because 6 * 6 = 36

What happens if we have to do a square root like

3√100 or other example

I was looking it up as a question was

7√–78,125 and it equaled to -5 (or if you want to do the i in the front :P)
