No one person can be given that title, since many great minds have contributed. Your question is subjective not to mention polarizing. There is Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Faraday, Maxwell, Einstein, Kepler, Torricelli, Feynman, Schrodinger, etc. The list goes on and on and on. The point is that they all made major contributions. I have to be honest with you and say that I hate questions like these.
