Parallelogram FGHI on the coordinate plane below represents the drawing of a horse trail through a local park. In order to build a scale model of the trail, the drawing is enlarged on the coordinate plane. If two corners of the trail are at point A (-2, 7) and point D (-10, -1), what is another point that could represent a corner of the trail? (14, 7) (10, 7) (12, 7) (8, 7)

Notice that all the choices have y=7, and x>0 for the coordinates, so AD corresponds to FI. The point you're looking for corresponds to point G.

I think it is 10, 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(10,7) seems very reasonable, how did you come to that answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Am I right? because it is a 4:3 ratio and I mainly wanted to check to see if I'm right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I subtracted the distance between F and G. Which is 3, times that by 4 and then added it onto A's x-axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's pretty much the same way I see it too. D and A are 8 units apart in the x direction while I and F are 2 units apart. That is a scale factor of 4, so that makes sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, am I right? Can you please check it for me. Or did you already?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like I said, it seems reasonable, and your method is pretty much the same as the one I'd use, so I think that is the right answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. Thank you. :D

Gave you a medal. :3
