OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

so here is what we have:|dw:1351376665576:dw|

OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

what we want to do is make a triangle out of that and use the Pythagorean theorem (\[A^{2} +B^{2} = C^{2}\])

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, writing as you type :)

OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

|dw:1351376894963:dw|

OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

so A(5+10) B(4+3) is \[15^{2}+8^{2}= 225+64= \sqrt{289} = 17\]

OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

that gives the diameter which is 2r so the radius is 8.5

OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

wait it's 7 not 8 lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7.5 or just 7?

OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

so that changes it to 225+49 =274

OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

the square root of that is 16.55 divided by 2 is 8.276

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 8.3?

OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

do you see where the numbers come from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i was just checking. trying to write fast lol

OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

it would have been neater if i didn't use 8 on the clean example lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol yes lots of scratch now haha. so just to be sure its 8.3?

OpenStudy (jusaquikie):

yes that is what it rounds to
