Which of the following is a function:* I was thinking the answer might be 3) but I am not sure. 1) x = y^2 2) x^2 + y^2 = 36 3) (6,-4), 5,-4), 2,-4) 4) (-4,2), (-4,-3), (-3, 6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What makes number 3 different from number 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it doesnt look like any of them are...none of them pass the vertical line test

OpenStudy (anonymous):

except number 3 which has an undefined slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, those are lines...i didnt realize

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One of them should be. :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it looks like 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-4,2), (-4,-3), (-3, 6)? ..I would think it wouldn't pass the vertical line test? considering -4 is in the beginning of two (x,y)

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hmm I don't think number 3 has an undefined slope. It just has a slope of 0! :D y=0x -4 This passes the vertical line test yes? :D
