When a number is doubled and then 84 is added to it, the result is 100. What is the number?
100-84 divided by 2
in other words, 8. :)
Horrible question, michu. Let's see if '8' really works When a number is doubled: 8*2 = 16 and then 84 is added to it 8+84 = 92 Now we have two results. It should say, "When a number is doubled and then 84 is added to THE RESULT...". Please complain to your question writer. :-)
but it says: a number is doubled and THEN 84 is added to it. So I'm guessing it does happen to the result. :) Worded right to me.
Horrible question. What is "it"? If "it" is the product of the doubling, the problem statement should say so. The ONLY object in that sentence is "a number". That must be "it". Horrible question.
