how do i find the domain of a function?

OpenStudy (precal):

depends on the function

OpenStudy (precal):

domain is all of the valid x values for a given function

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Generally, youstart with "All Real Numbers". After that, you look around and see if you can find anyhting that doesn't work. f(x) = 1/x -- x = 0 doesn't work, so all Real Numbers except x = 0 g(x) = log(x) -- x > 0 only.. No negatives allowed. No x = 0, either.

OpenStudy (precal):

look at the parent functions, look at the graphs that generally will give you an idea of the domain
