the speed of a stream is 5mph. if the boat travels 54 miles downstream in the same time that it takes to travel 27 miles upstream, what is the speed of the boat in still water/

say speed of the boat in still water is x.. its speed in down stream will be x+5 upstream will be x-5( x should be higher than 5 for the boat move in opposite direction). \[(x+5)t = 54\] \[(x-5)t =27\] divide both equations and solve for x..
