Not sure how to put this in factored form...x2 + 13x + 42

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1st step: multiply the coefficient of the x^2 term which is 1 by the constant which is 42. list the factors and choose the ones that would add up to give you the coefficient of the x term which is 13.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh.. okay, that makes sense! Thank you for getting me started. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2nd step: for the first two terms find the common factor and factor it out. do the same for the last two terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it. so (x-6) (x-7) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the factors that add up to 13 is +7 and +6. so it would rather be (x+6)(x+7).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh.. so positive terms for it if all of the numbers are positive then, gotcha.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dats it

thank you!
