Solve the following equation, answer as a reduced, mixed number. 8(1 - 5x) = 13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is your first step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 x 32x = 13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Close... but it is 8x5 isn't 32, and you don't multiply the 8 and the x term.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I'm left with: 8 x = 0.325

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is not what I got. Try rewriting the left side as -40x+8=13. You have to minus 8 from both sides to get 40x=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then what do I do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You want to get rid of the 40 in front of the x. How would you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nevermind. No thanks to you, I figured out it was -1/8

There is absolutely no need to be rude. Clearly you needed my help if you were unable to do basic distributing and subtraction. And, for your future information, two things: 1) If you're looking for someone to give you the answer, this is not the place for you. This is a place to learn and grow, not just to blindly get an answer. 2) You can't write fractions less than one as mixed numbers.
