A 3.0kg block falls from rest through a distance of 6.0m in an evacuated tube near the surface of the earth. What is the speed after it has fallen the 6.0m distance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the equation \[v _{f}^{2} = v _{i}^{2} + 2ad\] The initial velocity is zero, and acceleration for an object falling in a vacuum is -9.8 m/s^2. Technically the final velocity is also negative (because it is a downward velocity)

So all I do is plug in the acceleration and the distance it falls, and that will be my answer?
