How many solutions does the system have?x = -4y + 4 2x + 8y = 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can try graphing both lines first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you put both equations into slope-intercept form (y=mx+b), then you graph them and see if the lines intersect or not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@CliffSedge i have no idea what you talking about

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are trying to solve a system of linear equations, but you have never graphed lines before?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@CliffSedge ive never graphed a line srry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then these kinds of problems are going to be a lot more difficult. When learning linear equations, the first thing you should do (after learning how to solve simple equations), is to graph lines, then learn about slope, and slope-intercept form and standard form, and how to find intercepts; only after all that should you attempt to solve a system of equations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It can still be done if you understand basic properties of numbers and equality, though. My first hint would be to get both equations into the same form. I recommended slope-intercept form before, but sometimes when working with systems, you'll want the equations ins standard form: Ax+By=C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The second equation, \(2x + 8y = 8\), is already in standard form. Can you make the first equation look like that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@CliffSedge im sorry but i just dont get this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What sort of math class are you taking and why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is the sort of question one might find at the end of an Algebra-1 course, or the beginning of an Algebra-2 course. The steps I am mentioning to help you solve it are learned in Pre-Algebra, and at the beginning of an Algebra-1 course; if you don't understand what I am talking about, then you should not be attempting to solve these kinds of problems.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@CliffSedge dude thanks for confusing me even more i told you i dont understand why coninue to write more stuff im not going to understand seems pointless

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome. Please drop whatever course you are taking that is asking these questions of you. You do not have the necessary prerequisite knowledge to continue.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help cliff

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@CliffSedge im reporting you for insulting me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jennyjewell25 , ok . . . Good luck with that. I'd be interested in seeing where I insulted you. Your case is even more dubious considering we already have this on record: jennyjewell25 "@CliffSedge o yea thats a great idea no offense but your stupid" So . . . who insulted whom again?

OpenStudy (trancenova):

jennyjewell25 - it is very clear that you made no attempt to read CliffSedge's replies nor accept the help he was giving. In the future please attempt to interact, in a positive manner, with those answering your questions. CliffSedge - If it appears that someone is either (a) answer mining or (b) simply not trying, feel free to report them and we will attempt to deal with it (it is not best to tell someone to drop their course).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I apologize, @TranceNova and @jennyjewell25 . It's been a frustrating day for me. I shouldn't have taken that out on others.
