The local zoo is filling two water tanks for the elephant exhibit. One water tank contains 34 gal of water and is filled at a constant rate of 4 gal/h. The second water tank contains 30 gal of water and is filled at a constant rate of 2 gal/h. Explain. Let x = the number of hours the tanks are filling and let y = the number of gallons in the tank. What are the constraints on the system? A. both x> or =0, y> or =0 B. x> or =0 only D. There are no constraints on the system. c isnt here because its not the right choice

The fact that the question states that the zoo is filling the tanks suggests to me that the number of gallons in the tank cannot be negative and possibly greater than zero,. the time cannot be negative and at some stage (like when you start) the time must be zero and quickly move into positives.

so then D? right or am i wrong

@JakeV8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess im wrong cause no one replying lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd vote for A, because this covers the instant the whole process starts.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought you said to cant be less than though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can still be equal to Zero I am imagining a graph with time on the horizontal axis and gallons on the vertical. The whole graph would satrt at (0,0). OK??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i gotcha

thanks
