The doppler effect states that the wavelength and frequency of a moving object is different to a stationary one. Measurements from distant planets shown an increase in wavelength and decrease in frequency showing they're moving away from us. This gives evidence for the big bang because the big bang claims the universe began expanding from a point and this evidence shows it's expanding because it's moving away from us.
