A rule would tell you how to get to the new point from the starting point.  The problem gives you the rule in words, so you have to put it in math terms.

I'm not sure what sort of answer you need here, but you might express it like this:
Rule:  (x + a, y + b)

This means, given a starting point of (x,y), the rule tells you to move right "a" steps and up "b" steps.

except for your typo error in front of the "2"  (should be -2, not _2), that is correct :)

However, that is the answer for part (b).  For (a), you need to show the rule with the x and y involved, like my example.

But I think you want to list the translation rule as (x + 1, y + 3).

This translation rule would translate a point from ANY starting point, not just (-2, -5)

the rule is like the instructions for the marching band, "go right 1 and up 3".
The whole band moves together, but only the lead drummer has a starting point of (-2, -5).

What about the lead trumpet?  Maybe the lead trumpet starts at (0,0).

Where would the lead trumpet end up after following the same translation rule?    Up 1 and right 3 would put the trumpet at (1,3).

So the band's rule says "everyone find your own starting point as some (x,y) coordinate, then add 1 to the x coordinate and add 3 to the y coordinate to find your next spot."
(x + 1, y + 3) works for the whole band, no matter where each player starts.
