My teacher has given me an Open Response Prompt to answer. It's a pre ap class and I'm not sure if i should put in the thesis statement?

I'd say yes. The thesis statement helps you shape the subject, details, etc. of any essay. It generally helps essays in being more detailed and intersting and such.
