Estimate the sum of 9.327 + 5.72 + 4.132 to one decimal place.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

19.2

OpenStudy (ucreategames):

the estimate problem is 9.3+5.8+4.1\ and the estimated answer is 19.2

OpenStudy (ucreategames):

come on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wouldn't the 5.72 round to 5.7, @ucreategames ?

OpenStudy (ucreategames):

oops i meant that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rounding it up actually gives a more accurate answer, but doing so without explaining why might confuse @mariposa1415 .

OpenStudy (ucreategames):

so the estimated answer is 19.1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think that would more correctly answer the question the way it was asked, though there are other ways to estimate. For example, rounding one number up and rounding the other number down cancels some of the rounding error. If you round all the numbers down then the estimate will necessarily under-represent the actual sum. *shrug*

OpenStudy (ucreategames):

oh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sum of 9.327 +5.72+ 4.132 is 19.179 and the estimate answer is 19.1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im rigth or not

OpenStudy (ucreategames):

ur right but if you need to show work CliffSedge knows alot about that I'm guessing

OpenStudy (ucreategames):

btw choose a best response and close the question
